When Carlo Vescio and Angelo Melchiorre decided to open Casa Vostra they were faced with a daunting task: How to distinguish themselves from the crowd of Italian restaurants - many of them well established - in Niagara Falls. Although their Clark Street location is close to the frenetic Ferry Street-Centre Street tourist hub, the partners were determined to create a unique eating experience that would appeal primarily to Niagara diners with the promise of casual fine dining in a family atmosphere.

Since opening its doors in June 2006, Casa Vostra has delivered on that promise, as evidenced by a steadily growing base of regular patrons. Carlo, who was brought up in the restaurant business, and Angelo, an experienced executive chef, have produced a winning recipe for success.

Because restaurants are about ambience as well as food, the partners enlisted the efforts of local designer Terry Scordino of Scordino Designs to create a space that would reflect the restaurant’s name, which in English means ' This Is Your House'. The result was a Tuscan interior setting with Italian landscapes on the walls and Roman shades on the windows. Casa Vostra is at once restful, colourful and totally inviting.As always, food is the focus, but Casa Vostra’s menu resists the temptation to offer up everything under the Italian sun. To be sure, traditional pasta favourites such as Spaghetti, Penne and Futtuccine Alfredo are there, all of them with Chef Angelo’s special touch. However, it is on the entrée list that Casa Vostra truly sets itself apart, especially for those who love veal. In addition to veal Parmigiano, Marsala and Scaloppini, Chef Angelo’s signature selection is a grilled veal chop, topped with Portobello mushroom, roasted red peppers and asiago cheese. Steak, chicken, lamb and seafood dishes round out the entrée offerings.

To complement the food is a careful selection of wines, with emphasis on Ontario and Italian offerings. The variety is sufficient to satisfy both the palate and the pocketbook.

Casa Vostra caters to private functions, and holds monthly theme parties dedicated to such delights as Wild Game, Polenta, a Fish and Seafood, and Osso Bucco. Italian Tour night with special dishes from various regions of Italy. Call for reservations 905-357-4910.

With its creative menu, quality cuisine and a genuine affection for its customers, Casa Vostra has indeed shown there is room for one more Italian restaurant in Niagara Falls. “I want every person to leave with a smile on their face, because they’ve had great food and a great time,” says Carlo.
